My Clean and Sustainable Haircare Routine

I am excited to get to share this post with you all! As women, we all want those luscious, healthy locks. But over the years, as someone with thick and coarse hair, I have had a hard time finding brands with safer ingredients that also perform. Add in almost 5 years straight of pregnancy, post-partum hair loss, pregnancy again… etc., my hair was needing some serious TLC.

For someone with already dry hair, the extra washing after workouts multiple times a week was drying my hair out and causing it to break off. (Full disclosure, I do like to occasionally get my hair color/highlighted; but this is max 2x per year. So while that can contribute to the dryness, I was certainly not taking proper care of my color treated hair by constantly over washing.)

I am excited to say that I have finally found a routine that is working for me. Minimal product. Clean ingredients. No overly powerful strong scent. It has checked all the boxes, without breaking the bank!

MY CLEAN HAIRCARE ROUTINE

1.     WASH – I go back and forth between two brands I love and have had success with. To shampoo, I lather a generous amount and give my scalp a deep scrub with either Beautycounter’s daily shampoo in Grapefruit (smells amazing and comes in refillable packaging!) or Acure Beauty’s simply smoothing shampoo.

2.     CONDITION – this is my favorite step. I use Innersense Beauty’s hydrating hair mask. Once I rinse shampoo. I lather mid-length to ends with this conditioning mask and leave in my hair ~5 minutes before rinsing. The smell is amazing, and I can feel the difference in my hair when I get out of the shower!

3.     *A step I know I need and am doing some market research for – heat protectant for styling! So this may be an edit in the future. If you have a clean heat protectant you love, please leave suggestions in the comments!

4.     DRY SHAMPOO – back to the tried-and-true brand, I use Acure’s dry shampoo for all hair types to touch up throughout the week. It is a powder and not a spray, which is a safer alternative. This holds my hair over so well until about day 6 when it’s time for me to start the process over again! I have not found that it builds up or looks caked on after a few uses.

5.     BONUS – for some extra shine and hydration between washes, I touch up the ends of my hair with a few drops of Beautycounter’s Brightening Facial Oil (yes, you read that right!). This product is a multi-purpose product, and will give your hair that summer/sun-kissed shine we are all going for.

If you’re new to making the switch over to clean hair care – one of the reasons I love this routine is because it is so affordable for anyone. And with washing only every 6 days – you can be sure that your products are going a long way and worth the investment.
