DIY Buddha Bowls

Buddha Bowls 101

The beauty of a “Buddha Bowl” is that it can be whatever you want it to be! I like to use the opportunity to make one of these bowls when I want a nutritious meal, but also need to clean out the fridge. It can also be easily modified to suit whatever food sensitivity, allergies, and flavors and preferences you personally stick to. There’s something for everyone! To make a bowl, there are 5 key components to stick to. From there, the world is your creative oyster!

THE 5 COMPONENTS

1.     Vegetables

2.     Grains

3.     Protein

4.     Nuts & seeds

5.     Dressing

If you have checked the box on these 5 key components, you have officially created a buddha bowl! By knowing you have intentionally focused on hitting these 5 components, you have created a well-balanced meal, that will bring you satiety and blood sugar balance. All important for a healthy weight, energy levels and hormones.

Some ideas for each of your components:

·      VEGETABLES – mixed greens, spinach, arugula, zucchini noodles, stir-fry veggies

·      GRAINS – rice (white or brown), quinoa, barley, buckwheat, millet, bulgur

·      PROTEIN – poultry, fish, shrimp, beef, pork, tofu, tempeh

·      NUTS & SEEDS – pumpkin seeds, chia seeds, flax seed, hemp, almonds, walnuts, cashews, pine nuts, peanuts

·      DRESSINGany, but when at home I encourage you to make your own
